Every February the city of Napier in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand has a long weekend of events celebrating all things Art Deco. In February 1931 Napier was largely destroyed in a major earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt in the (then) modern architectural style – Art Deco. Now the self styled Art Deco capital of the world celebrates with parades, 30’s costume and vintage cars. Irresistible photo opportunity, and I must say it’s amazing how popular DLSRs were in the 30’s, considering the number of poeple in vintage dress who were carrying them. 2015 will also go down as the year of the vintage hipster. There was a large contingent of bearded young men of a certain age who had just added a pair of trouser braces to their usual attire! My new X-Pro 1 had just arrived so the XF 35mm went on that, backed up with the XF 56mm on the X-T1 .
